KUNO is looking for a Communications Officer - 16 hours per week

Are you a versatile communications professional who knows how to translate substantive themes into clear, accessible and engaging communications? Would you like to contribute to knowledge sharing and collaboration within the humanitarian sector? Then we are looking for you.

As KUNO Communications Officer, you ensure that professionals, organisations and knowledge institutions know how to find the platform, remain engaged and have access to relevant knowledge and activities. You combine the independent delivery of day-to-day tasks with contributing substantively to the development of the communications strategy and communications plan.

Who is KUNO?

KUNO is a knowledge platform for professionals, organisations and knowledge institutions active in the field of humanitarian aid. Through events, publications and communications, we encourage knowledge sharing, connection and collaboration. In this way, we bring people and ideas together and strengthen learning within the humanitarian sector.

Your Mission

You ensure distinctive, up-to-date and accessible communications that strengthen the KUNO network. You translate substantive developments into relevant communication materials for our target audiences and ensure that our communication channels are professional, consistent and engaging.

What will you do?

In this varied role, you will work on KUNO’s online and offline communications. You will contribute ideas to the communications strategy, translate plans into concrete activities and monitor results to continuously improve our communications.

  • You contribute to the communications strategy and communications plan and translate these into clear priorities and activities.
  • You manage communications around online and in-person events before, during and after each event.
  • You manage and update the KUNO website and safeguard its quality, accessibility and consistency.
  • You create and distribute newsletters and mailings that are relevant, recognisable and tailored to their target audience.
  • You manage the KUNO LinkedIn and YouTube channels and develop, edit, schedule and publish content, including event highlights.
  • You design publications and printed materials or supervise their design, coordinating production with internal and external parties.
  • You monitor reach and engagement and use insights to improve communication activities.

What do you bring?

You are an independent and creative communications professional who works carefully, maintains a clear overview and switches easily between planned work and current requests. You feel at home in a content-driven environment and know how to convey complex information clearly and engagingly.

  • You communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, and adapt your style to the target audience.
  • You take initiative, recognise opportunities and proactively propose practical ideas and solutions.
  • You work accurately and check content and communication materials for substance, spelling, house style, accessibility and technical specifications.
  • You plan and organise independently, set priorities and monitor deadlines and quality.
  • You have an excellent command of English; proficiency in Dutch and/or another foreign language is an advantage.
  • You devise engaging formats and visual concepts that suit the aims and the target audience.
  • You enjoy collaborating, exchanging ideas and actively contributing to shared results.
  • You remain effective under time pressure and can adapt flexibly without compromising quality.

What makes this role special?

  • You work at the heart of an active network of professionals, organisations and knowledge institutions in the humanitarian sector.
  • You have a broad communications role that brings together strategy, content, online channels, events and publications.
  • You have the freedom to work independently, take initiative and experiment with new forms of communication.
  • You make a visible contribution to knowledge sharing, connection and collaboration within the KUNO network.
  • You will be employed by Stichting Vluchteling.
  • The role is based in The Hague, but you will work at several locations.

What do we offer?

  •  A dynamic role in an informal and decisive working environment. No two days are the same. You will work in a small team with highly committed colleagues.
  •  A 16-hour-per-week position, spread over no more than three working days, with plenty of scope for your own initiative and ideas.
  • A one-year employment contract with Stichting Vluchteling, with the possibility of extension.
  • In addition to a good salary (up to salary scale 8 under the 2026 Central Government Collective Labour Agreement), commensurate with your experience, knowledge and age, you will receive holiday allowance (8%) and an end-of-year allowance of 8.3%.
  • A modern benefits package, including a good pension plan, an attractive bicycle leasing scheme, a laptop and, if required, a mobile phone.
  • We work flexibly from the office and from home, but expect you to be in the office at least one day a week, or more often when KUNO events take place.
