About the event

This Dutch Relief Alliance (DRA) learning session will explore practical lessons from the LOCAL-Lead (Localized Ownership for Coordination, Accountability and Leadership in Direct Funding) pilot in Yemen. The pilot was designed and led by a consortium of Yemeni organizations to test a locally governed approach to humanitarian funding, decision-making, and crisis response.

As the humanitarian sector continues to seek practical pathways towards greater localization, this session will reflect on the experiences, achievements, challenges, and emerging lessons from the LOCAL-Lead pilot. The discussion will examine what it takes to move from commitments on direct funding and equitable partnerships to meaningful shifts in leadership, governance, and accountability.

The session will feature:

  • Reflections and key learnings from LOCAL-Lead
  • Presentation of research findings by Lelie Khamseh on direct funding and localization
  • Panel discussion with representatives from the consortium and key stakeholders
  • Moderated audience Q&A
  • Closing reflections
