Lost Land (Harà Watan). Film screening and dialogue

In collaboration with The Hague Humanity Hub, KUNO is pleased to present the critically acclaimed film Lost Land by Akio Fujimoto. This event is part of the Just Peace Movie Nights series, which uses film and storytelling to highlight urgent issues related to peace and justice for a broad audience. Following the screening, an expert panel will speak about the Rohingya crisis and children’s rights in displacement contexts.  

In the hope of reuniting with their scattered family, four-year-old Shafi and his nine-year old sister Somira leave a Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh and embark on a perilous journey to Malaysia. Told through the eyes of children, the film portrays the refugee experience by blending harsh reality with elements of fantasy. 

Featuring more than two hundred Rohingya participants, Lost Land (Harà Watan) offers a powerful and immersive depiction of their collective experience. Along the way, the children face natural forces, exploitation through cross-border trafficking, and constant challenges that test their resilience. Shot at the eye level of its young actors and the first ever feature entirely in the Rohingya language, the film captures both the trauma of displacement and the silence that allows it to persist. 

The film was nominated for the Grand Jury Fiction Award at the Movies That Matter Festival 2026.
