Exhibition Echoes of Myanmar

Exhibition Echoes of Myanmar
Nearly a million Rohingya have fled violence in Myanmar. Today, they survive in overcrowded camps in Bangladesh—stateless, isolated, and too often forgotten. Echoes of Myanmar brings their stories to life through powerful portraits, handmade art, and personal testimonies. Discover their resilience, creativity, and hope.

A powerfull exhibition

In the Atrium, large portrait banners by the Museum of Humanity are on display. They depict the creators of objects from the Rohingya Cultural Memory Centre and patients of the Hope Foundation. Alongside video fragments, display cases, informative panels, and personal stories, they create a powerful and moving experience. Echoes of Myanmar is a call to open our eyes to a forgotten crisis.

Art and crafts

In early 2025, the Museum of Humanity visited the Rohingya in Cox’s Bazar, the largest refugee camp in the world. Here, IOM runs the Rohingya Cultural Memory Centre: a creative and safe space where music, art, crafts, and memories contribute to identity and resilience. A selection of handmade objects is displayed in the Atrium, testifying to hope, pride, and creativity. For the first time, they are being shown in the Netherlands.

Living with chronical illness

The exhibition also reveals another reality: life in the camps with chronic illness. Through intimate portraits and stories, visitors witness the challenges faced by patients who rely on medical care from the Hope Foundation, supported by Stichting Vluchteling.

VR Experience

A unique feature is an impressive VR experience that allows visitors to walk virtually through the camp. Created by Stichting Vluchteling, this immersive journey offers a poignant glimpse into the daily lives of the refugees. The VR booth is open Monday to Friday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
