Strengthening International Humanitarian Law - session four

Strengthening International Humanitarian Law - session four
On invitation only

About the event

This KUNO working session is the fourth meeting in the series ‘strengthening IHL’ (with the first sessions held last year on 16 June, 2 December 2025, and 4 March 2026). This meeting is by invitation only and will take place under Chatham House Rule. The participants of this meeting include humanitarian practitioners, policymakers, and academics.

In different ways, humanitarian organisations are making efforts to strengthen IHL in a context where it is under threat. Initiatives are aimed at strengthening the protection of civilians and aid workers, ensuring greater accountability for violations, and reinforcing the critical role of IHL as a framework to reduce suffering. This session aims to contribute to some of those initiatives being amplified across the Dutch humanitarian field. It builds on the session that was hosted during the annual KUNO conference in June and its follow-up meetings. Reports can be made available on request.

Participants will be divided into groups to work on the following themes strategically:

  • Public awareness and IHL on the political agenda
  • National capacity for strengthening IHL
  • Humanitarian diplomacy and access

This session is moderated by Corinne Lamain, Coordinator KUNO
