Safeguarding matters

Nastasya Gecim talks to Hannah Clare, Head of PSEA & Safeguarding at Norwegian Refugee Council, and Dr. Faith Mwangi-Powell, the CEO of Girls not Brides. They make a powerful case for learning, partnerships and accountability.

On this episode Resource & Support HUB reflects on challenges the aid sector has faced in keeping people safe and what it will take to make real improvements and restore trust. They ask the question: ‘Can we trust the aid sector to keep people safe?’. The media has drawn attention to incidents where the aid sector has failed to do this. Aid sectors have been involved in sexual exploitation, which has raised the issue of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) to the agenda. It resulted in safeguarding policies and practices being established across the aid sector, the beginning of what we see evolving today. There was a rise in the #AidToo movement, which also resulted in the launch of the Resource & Support HUB, who reflect in this podcast on the recent developments around SEA and trust in the aid sector.
